Lots of folks asked if I thought the headline Royal Oak lots disappointed last week. I think five one-million-dollar watches in a single link year, for a single model, should always warrant a celebration, but because the Royal Oak is that popular at this link current moment in time, there's a natural inclination to think the hype will translate to dollar bills. link (To be fair, that is more-or-less what happened with the infamous Tiffany-blue Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711.)

For reference, a brand new solid gold Submariner ref. 126618LN currently retails for $36,950. link The idea of wearing a solid-gold sub to carry out challenging and often precarious tasks underwater certainly defies traditional watch enthusiast thinking, but like René Jeanneret said to Dick Anderson link in 1970, one should not be afraid to take it link diving. Gilliam took that quite literally, and it turns out Jeanneret wasn't bluffing.

Oooooh buddy. Here we go again, and boy, am I excited. M.A.D.1 has been on my radar for quite a while. I'm a big fan of Max Büsser and MB&F, but I can't imagine I will ever be shopping in the price bracket where I could get an link example of his watchmaking design skills. That's why the M.A.D.1. was so special. Suddenly, many more people link had a chance to get a touch of Büsser's creativity on their wrist. But I'm not the only link one who has thought so.

Now, an "un-dived with" COMEX Submariner 1680, link a Tropical Red Submariner, and an 18k link rose gold Oyster Perpetual 6034 is no collection to scoff at, so these three pieces are surely worthy of their newly crowned titles. Of course, records are meant to be broken. Judging by how quickly the Red link Submariner, for example, set the new world record, only time will tell how long these three pieces will hold each of their individual mantles. Until next time.

We covered, in our introductory post, that the watch, cased in rose gold, features a beige lacquer bezel that link matches the beige dial. What we – nay, I – couldn't link have known at that time was just how insanely interesting that would look in real life. While the color is called "beige" by the brand, I would almost describe it as aged ivory – or a coffee with entirely link too much cream.
